City employees in Philadelphia discovered a young child deceased inside a duffel bag while clearing a lot on Monday morning.

Philadelphia Police Inspector Kpana Massaquoi informed WPVI the child seemed to be between 2 and 4 years old.

The find was made just before 10 a.m. in the Mantua neighborhood of the city. A woman reported speaking with the worker who found the body right after it occurred.

“He was crying, he was right in front of my car. He thought it was like a dead animal, and he dropped it because it was heavy, and when he dropped it, he said feet came out and he saw sneakers,” said Ariel Williams.

Investigators have not yet established any details about the child, such as how or when the death occurred. They mentioned that the body was in an advanced state of decomposition. They are looking into missing persons cases or other ongoing investigations in the area.
