Authorities in Idaho have issued a blue alert following a report of an inmate breaking free from custody early Wednesday during a hospital shooting that resulted in three corrections officers getting injured.

East Idaho News stated that officers had taken inmate Skylar Meade, 31, to Saint Alphonsus in Boise for medical care. As officers prepared to bring him back to the Idaho Department of Corrections, an unknown attacker supposedly opened fire at the hospital — allowing Meade to flee.

The suspect allegedly shot two IDOC officers. The third officer was accidentally shot by a Boise police officer who mistook them for an armed suspect near the hospital’s entrance.

An IDOC officer shot by the unknown suspect is in critical but stable condition, while the other officer suffered significant but not life-threatening injuries. KTVB reported that the officer who was shot by police had non-life-threatening injuries.

Meade and the suspect reportedly fled in a gray four-door sedan before Boise police arrived at the hospital.

Records indicated that Meade had been jailed since 2016 for aggravated battery of a law enforcement officer with a firearm enhancement. He also had prior convictions for possession of a controlled substance, grand theft, and introduction of contraband into a correctional facility.

KTVB reported that Meade received a 20-year sentence for shooting at shooting at a Twin Falls police sergeant during a high-speed chase. His release was scheduled for October 2036.

Anyone with information about Wednesday’s incident or Meade’s whereabouts is asked to call Ada County Dispatch at 208-377-6790.
