A worker at a daycare in Alabama has been accused of killing an infant at the place where she was employed.
Versa Mae Simmons, 68, was taken into custody on Friday in Demopolis, WSFA reported.
Demopolis Police Chief Rex Flowers informed the station that medical personnel were summoned to Tender Years on Monday due to an unresponsive baby. The medics performed CPR and transported the child to Whitfield Memorial Hospital, where the infant was declared deceased.
Police Chief Flowers mentioned that video evidence from the facility and discussions with other staff members led to the arrest of Simmons, but he did not disclose further details.
The infant's remains have been sent for an autopsy at the state laboratory. Simmons is awaiting arraignment at the Marengo County Detention Center.
