On Friday, two Nevada police officers and a sheriff’s deputy were hurt in a chaotic, lengthy event that involved a pursuit in a Sparks neighborhood and a confrontation at a residence.

Almost nine hours later, the suspect was discovered deceased in a house where he had barricaded himself.

The incident started around 1:30 p.m. on Friday when an officer made a traffic stop, according to Sparks Police Chief Chris Crawforth. KRXI reportedAs the officer approached the vehicle, the driver pulled out a handgun and shot through the window, hitting the officer in the shoulder. The suspect then drove off, but crashed into another vehicle and left his vehicle to escape on foot.

At that point, officers from Sparks and Reno and deputies from the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office started searching the area, closing nearby streets and evacuating some homes while advising other residents to stay inside in a four-square-block perimeter. the Associated Press said.

The driver attempted to enter a house but was forced out by the residents. Witnesses guided officers to another house where the suspect was reportedly spotted. When the officers arrived, an elderly woman answered the door and immediately dropped to the floor as the suspect opened fire, injuring another Sparks officer and a deputy. Other officers assisted the wounded and the elderly woman to safety.

The suspect exited the house, leaped over a fence, and entered a home occupied by another elderly woman, who remained hidden inside her home. Officers removed her when the suspect entered the backyard.

Law enforcement brought in a SWAT team and negotiators, who attempted to convince the suspect to surrender for several hours while he occasionally fired at the officers outside.

Around 10 p.m., officers entered the home and discovered the suspect dead. Police did not disclose how he died.

The three injured officers were treated and discharged from a hospital.

Crawforth said the identity of the suspect would be revealed later.
