A 22-year-old man from Illinois has been found not guilty of killing his son.

Logan Hutchings went through a bench trial in Perry County for the killing of his son, Ocean Hutchings, who died on June 14, 2022. Court records online show that Hutchings denied the three murder accusations and a jury acquitted him of the charges last week.

The County Journal states that despite Ocean's death being the result of foul play, the judge in charge saidthe evidence did not prove beyond doubt” that Hutchings was the one who caused harm to the baby.

As CrimeOnline previously revealed, the Illinois State Police mentioned that Hutchings and the baby's mother, Sophia Kelly, were accused of first-degree murder after their son was hurried to a hospital in St. Louis, Missouri, two days before he died.

The ISP stated that they were summoned to look into the matter by the Pinckneyville Police Department and the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services, following the infant's admission to the hospital, where medical staff found that he had a skull fracture and multiple broken ribs.

Law&Crime reports that prosecutors are now aiming to drop the charges against Kelly, who was set for a trial commencing on May 1.

The situation is still developing. Stay tuned for more information.
