A judge in Manitowoc County, Wisconsin, ruled on Thursday that Jesse Vang must go to trial for a charge of child neglect in connection with the disappearance of 3-year-old Elijah Vue. Elijah went missing while Vang was looking after him.
According to Fox News Digital, the judge made the decision after hearing from Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office Detective Michael Herrmann and Two Rivers Police Department Detective Jacob Glaeser, who said there was enough evidence to continue with the case. The judge also turned down a request from the defense to drop the charges.
Vang was accused in February of felony child neglect related to Elijah’s disappearance.
As CrimeOnline previously reported
, Vang was taking care of Elijah when the child disappeared from a Twin Rivers apartment complex in the 3900 block of Mishicot Road on February 20. While Elijah has not been found, Vue’s mother, Katrina Baur, who had entrusted Vang to look after the child for a few weeks, is also in jail facing a charge related to child neglect. In court on Thursday, District Attorney Jacalyn LaBre and Vang’s defense attorneys, Timothy Hogan and Michael Turner, questioned the detectives about their involvement in the investigation and why Vang was charged with child neglect.
The questions mainly centered on the discipline Vang used with Elijah, such as making him stand for long periods with his hands in a “
praying position,” as reported by the Herald Times Reporter. They also inquired about an incident where Vang allegedly put Elijah in a cold shower after the child soiled his diaper.Glaeser also mentioned a photo found in a deleted folder on Baur’s phone. The picture showed Elijah with a blindfold and bruising around his face and arms.
Vang is still in jail under a $20,000 cash bond. His arraignment hearing is set for April 16.
