A judge in Idaho announced that the trial for Chad Daybell, involving three murder charges, will commence with opening statements on Wednesday.
The process of selecting the jury started on Monday last week and finished this Monday after both Chad Daybell’s legal team and the prosecutors made their peremptory challenges to remove potential jurors. Last July, Lori Vallow Daybell, Chad Daybell’s wife, was given a life sentence without parole for the killings of her two children, J.J. Vallow and Tylee Ryan, aged 7 and 16. Their bodies were found buried on Chad Daybell’s property nine months after they went missing. Vallow Daybell was also sentenced to life for plotting the murder of Chad Daybell’s former wife, Tammy Daybell, in October 2019.
Chad Daybell, who is married to Lori Vallow Daybell, is currently facing trial for the murder of his two children and his previous wife. After Tammy Daybell's death, Chad remarried shortly, although her death was initially ruled natural but later determined to be a homicide.
Vallow Daybell is awaiting trial in Arizona for the murder of her fourth husband, Charles Vallow, in July 2019. Vallow Daybell’s brother, Alex Cox, claimed self-defense after fatally shooting Charles Vallow, who died in December 2019. It was suggested by Idaho prosecutors that Cox was also involved in the killings.
