Parents in Texas are facing charges in relation to the deaths of their twin babies last autumn.

Angelina Belinda Calderon and Fernando Vega, who are both 21 years old, have been put in jail on two charges each for causing serious harm to a child. KTRK stated this..

On October 4, 2023, the police in Houston were called to the house after finding two 6-week-old babies unresponsive in their crib. Vega reported that he discovered the girls not breathing and received instructions on CPR, but unfortunately, they did not survive as they were born prematurely.

Vega mentioned to investigators that the girls were unsettled throughout the night and he put them in the bassinet where they eventually fell asleep. Calderon stated she saw the twins the next morning but did not disturb them as she was heading to work.

Vega left the girls with their grandmother while taking Calderon to work, and upon returning home, found the babies unresponsive. according to KHOU.

Initially, officers did not notice any obvious signs of injury. It was also discovered that the twins had not received check-ups since leaving the hospital after being born prematurely. Calderon confessed that the girls had been unwell, but medical help was not sought, as per KTRK.

Official documents state that x-rays revealed the babies had multiple fractures, including to the thigh bone and ribs, as well as the clavicle of one of the babies. The autopsies indicated that the injuries seemed to be a mix of new and old, considering the babies were only six weeks old.

The rib fractures, they said, “were not consistent with chest compressions from CPR. Both children had similar rib fractures, and one had a frontal head fracture. Both babies were malnourished and dehydrated.

The autopsies showed that the babies passed away from various severe injuries and both had brain damage.

Calderon and Vega were taken into custody on Friday and are set to appear in court on Monday.
