Police in Dallas were directed to a residence by a 911 call where they found a perpetrator and the victim’s body. TexasOmar Lucio, 34, is detained locally on a charge of murder and additional offenses, according to records.

The family of the 27-year-old victim, Corinna Johnson, claim that the killing culminated from a history of domestic violence throughout their six-year relationship.

“Each time we saw her with black eyes or bruises, her mother, we would always advise her, ‘You shouldn’t be with him. He will harm you. He’s going to kill you,’” her aunt, Kathy Gareau, informed Fox Dallas affiliate KDFW.

Johnson was reportedly a mother to a 7-year-old.

A woman who met Lucio at his apartment around 1:30 a.m. on Sunday, April 14 after he asked for help made the 911 call.

Lucio purportedly told her that he had been drinking with Johnson at a bar. He blamed Johnson for getting them kicked out of the bar, according to his account of events. Lucio supposedly stated that he had “knocked some sense into her” but she became unresponsive.

The woman described discovering Johnson on the bathroom floor. The victim had a bruised and bloody face, and was apparently deceased. The next day, the woman informed the police, as per officers.

Dallas cops said they received information regarding the case from their counterparts in Garland around 1:15 a.m. on Monday. The incident occurred approximately 24 hours earlier on W. Wheatland Road, they stated.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that officers arrived at the scene and located a man, identified as 34-year-old Omar Lucio, who declined to exit,” they detailed. “Lucio emerged around 3:00 am and was apprehended. Officers went inside the apartment and found an unresponsive woman. Dallas Fire Rescue arrived and the woman passed away at the location.”

According to the KDFW report, Lucio allegedly confided to officers that he “snapped” in the car and assaulted Johnson.

Officers observed that Lucio had blood underneath his fingernails and on his left shoe. They noted injuries to his hands.

However, Lucio purportedly did not clarify how Johnson ended up in bedding in the closet.

Officers also asserted that they discovered blood-stained clothing in the defendant’s car.

“My sister was just the most bubbly person ever,” Erica Hernandez relayed. “She was full of joy. She was a ray of sunshine.”

Johnson’s family is conducting a GoFundMe campaign to cover her funeral costs.
