A man in Missouri has been accused of committing second degree murder for strangling his wife to death while she was in the hospital to have a new port put in for kidney dialysis.

Ronnie Wiggs confessed to stopping his wife from screaming by covering her nose and mouth, and then squeezing her throat with his thumbs. WDAF reported this incident. He also admitted that he had attempted to kill her two times before while she was in the hospital or rehabilitation.

Wiggs also told the police that he was feeling very sad and unable to take care of his wife or afford her medical bills.

According to prosecutors, Wiggs strangled his wife on Friday night at the Centerpoint Medical Center in Independence. Hospital staff reported that they heard Wiggs confess to killing her before he left.

After leaving the hospital, Wiggs called a relative to take him back. Initially, he was arrested for domestic assault as his wife had not yet been declared dead. She was removed from life support shortly after and passed away.

The relative who picked Wiggs up told the police that he admitted to choking his wife and killing her. Another witness mentioned seeing suspicious injuries and fresh wounds on her neck, according to court records.

Wiggs is currently being held on a $250,000 bond.
