A lady from South Carolina has been accused of illegal behavior towards a minor after she deserted her child, who was under 10 years old, at a park while she went to buy groceries.

Irmo Police stated they received a call around 7:40 p.m. on Saturday from the grandparent of another child at Irmo Community Park. The grandparent had noticed that the child had been playing with their grandchild for about an hour and there was no sign of a parent or guardian. The child mentioned that their mother had dropped them off.

The child explained that they couldn't contact their mother but provided the police with her name and the type of car she drove when they arrived.

The child appeared to be frightened and informed the officers that they were hungry and thirsty, as per the police.

Roughly 90 minutes after the police were called, a car matching the mother's description drove past the park without stopping. An officer conducted a traffic stop and brought the driver, identified as 55-year-old Frankie Campbell-Provo, back to the park.

Campbell-Provo admitted that she was the legal guardian of the child and had left them at the park at 6:00pm. She claimed she was going grocery shopping and intended to return for the child at 8:00pm. She admitted that the child didn't have a phone or any means of communication and seemed to be unaware of the danger she had put the child in.

The police arrested Campbell-Provo and handed the child over to a relative.

Campbell-Provo posted a $5,000 bond and was released on Monday, WIS reported. She could face up to 10 years in prison if found guilty.
