A mother from Texas who was given a low bond amount after reportedly hitting a 3-month-old baby has been sent back to jail.

According to DailyMail, Brittney Bailey, 31, was taken into custody in March on suspicion of mistreating one of her twin infants. She’s also being investigated for her potential involvement in the death of the other twin, pending the completion of the autopsy.

Austin law enforcement officers were reportedly outraged when Magistrate Judge Tania Jeffers approved Bailey’s release on a $250 bond. She has since been arrested again and given a $500,00 bond.

As CrimeOnline previously reported, paramedics responded to an Austin apartment on March 10, where Bailey lived with her newborn twins, a toddler daughter, and her husband.

An arrest affidavit obtained by KVUE suggests that police found one of the infants unresponsive, with Bailey claiming the baby had rolled off the bed. She attributed the injuries to her 17-month-old daughter and said the older child played roughly with the infant and threw a cell phone at her.

At the hospital, medical staff discovered injuries to the baby’s lips, cheeks, and nostrils, as well as bruises to her forehead and neck. Further examination revealed multiple fractures to both legs and potential rib fractures.

The baby passed away on March 15.

Medical professionals said the injuries could not have been inflicted by a 17-month-old, as they were consistent with an adult’s strength and coordination, the affidavit said. Further, the children’s father told police he witnessed Bailey being physically rough with the infant on multiple occasions but didn’t intervene

He also described instances where Bailey allegedly struck the baby with such force during burping that it produced an audible “thud,” according to the affidavit.

During a police interview on March 21, Bailey again implicated her 17-month-old daughter in the infant’s injuries. When questioned about the inconsistencies in her statement, she reportedly nodded in agreement before abruptly abandoning the interview.

DailyMail reports that a second judge, a second judge, Brandy Mueller, was responsible for revoking the original bond.
