A man in Utah was taken into custody for breaking protection orders after authorities got a message from a woman claiming she had been taken by her ex, held against her will, and was at a specific address, now in a white van.
Authorities went to the address in St. George mentioned in the text, which was the man's residence, but didn't find anyone. By tracking the woman's cell phone, they located her in a desert area of Arizona south of St. George.
As per the man's arrest report, officers couldn't verify any problem from their conversation with the woman, but they located and detained the man.
The woman refused to share any details about a crime taking place.
Based on the affidavit, it was observed that the woman displayed signs of trauma and appeared scared to communicate, as she avoided eye contact.
The officers asked for a female officer to talk to the victim, who confirmed that she contacted 911 but refused to provide any specifics, and had burn marks near her wrists indicating the use of bindings.
The affidavit mentions that the victim started sobbing during a lethality test — an assessment to determine the risk of a potential fatal attack by an abuser.
The man was arrested for violating three active protective orders against him, with the police choosing not to disclose his name to safeguard the victim's identity.
