Last week, the body of a person found in a trash bin in Sunland, California, has been recognized.
The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner’s office has stated that the victim is Heather Haas, 32 years old. SFGate reports.
As CrimeOnline previously reported, a homeowner found a garbage can lying on its side Tuesday morning and picked it up. He called the police non-emergency line and said the the can was heavier than usual.
A few hours later, gardeners in the Sunland neighborhood noticed a strong smell from the can. Another neighbor called 911, and police arrived and found the body.
LAPD Detective Eduardo Serrano told KTLA that there were initial reports of a foul smell and flies coming from the trash bin.
“We don’t understand what exactly happened yet, but just the fact that a body was discarded in the street, in a trash bin, it’s very saddening. That’s no way for a person to discover that their loved one was left in that manner.”
CBS News reports that the victim’s body had been hidden inside a snowboarding and she had likely been “concealed for days”.The medical examiner is working on finding out how the person died..”
Anyone with more information on the case should call LAPD’s Homicide Division at (818) 374-9550.
