Testimony kept going Thursday morning in the trial for suspect Karen Read, a woman from Massachusetts accused of killing her boyfriend in 2022.
As CrimeOnline previously reported, a Norfolk County grand jury charged Read in 2022 with murder, motor vehicle manslaughter, and leaving the scene of a collision causing death. She’s accused of killing her boyfriend, John O’Keefe, a Boston police officer.
On Monday, prosecutors inside the Norfolk Superior Court in Dedham revealed that the couple had been arguing for at least a month before O’Keefe’s death, which ended in a heated dispute during a January 2022 New Year’s trip.
Read allegedly accused O’Keefe of infidelity during the altercation.
On Tuesday, Canton police officer Stephen Mullaney testified that he arrived at the scene and found Read “absolutely hysterical,” saying “I did it,” “It’s my fault,” or “I hit him.”
Defense attorney David Yannetti cross-examined Mullaney regarding what he overheard Read saying, according to CBS Boston, following testimony by Canton police officer Steve Saraf, who arrived at the crime scene first.
In court Thursday, Canton Fire Dept.’s Acting Lt. Anthony Flematti testified about the care his team provided to O’Keefe, along with a conversation he had with the defendant at the scene.
Flematti said it’s standard procedure to talk to people on-site to gather information about the incident. He also confirmed earlier statements from witnesses regarding Read’s alleged confession.
