A man from Washington has been accused of trying to commit murder by setting his house on fire with his elderly and disabled father inside.
William Allan Lewis is also accused of threatening a sibling with a gun during the incident, but the sibling managed to escape when Franklin County deputies showed up at the scene. The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office stated this..
It’s not clear who alerted the police, but when the deputies discovered that Lewis’s father was being held against his will, they requested assistance from other agencies.
Negotiators attempted to reach Lewis on his cell phone to discuss his surrender, but he declined and instead started a fire in the bathroom. He eventually gave up by appearing at the front door, and a team went in and rescued the elderly father.
No injuries were reported, and firefighters put out the fire. This was reported by the Tri-City Herald..
The sheriff’s office did not reveal Lewis’s identity, but the Herald found him in jail records booked on Friday for charges of arson, attempted murder, unlawful imprisonment, and assault.
