A 26-year-old man from Texas was taken into custody in Abilene on Monday for killing two women from New Mexico and taking a 10-month-old child.
A 5-year-old girl was also seriously hurt with a gunshot wound to the head in the Friday afternoon event at Ned Houk Park in Clovis, New Mexico.
The Chief of Police in Clovis, Roy Rice, mentioned that the baby girl, Eleia Maria Torres, was found unharmed and brought to a hospital for assessment.
Baby Eleia and the 5-year-old were the children of Samantha Cisneros, one of the women discovered shot to death near a minivan in the park on Friday, as reported by CrimeOnline. The other woman was known as Taryn Allen; both were 23 years old and both were from Texico, a town around nine miles to the east of Clovis, right on the Texas state boundary.
The individual involved in the incident, Alek Isaiah Collins, was apprehended at a residence in Abilene, which is over 250 miles from Clovis, and the baby was also found there, according to Clovis Deputy Chief Trevor Thron. He is currently being detained in the Taylor County Jail on charges of aggravated burglary and aggravated assault against a public servant while awaiting extradition to New Mexico, as per KTAB report.
The District Attorney for the 9th Judicial Circuit in New Mexico, Quentin Ray, informed the media that he had authorized two counts of murder charges, two counts of child abuse, and one count of kidnapping against Collins.
Thron informed the media that investigators have not found any evidence of a connection between Collins and Cisneros and Allen, but they were still looking into it. A motive has not been discovered.
