A Utah couple was taken into custody this week after their teenage daughter reached out to the authorities on Thursday to disclose that “her father had been raping her for the last year and a half.”

Provo authorities interviewed the couple — the teen’s stepfather and mother — and they acknowledged they had been engaging in sexual activity with her for over a year. KSL stated..

The couple, both in their mid to late 30s, were detained for investigation of forcible sexual abuse, forcible sodomy, and object rape. The stepfather is also under scrutiny for rape.

“(The stepfather) explained that a year ago he and the victim’s mother learned that the victim was wanting to meet and have sex with strangers,” an arrest affidavit says. “(He) said that together with his wife they decided that educating the victim about sex, and engaging in sexual activity with the victim would be safer for her than having sex with strangers.”

KSL did not identify the parents to safeguard the victim's identity.

Police mentioned that additional charges may be brought as the investigation continues.
