A federal grand jury has accused the girlfriend of a man who confessed to abducting, sexually assaulting, and killing 17-year-old Brittanee Drexel in 2009, of giving false information to investigators during the probe.

Angel Cooper Vause, 56, was taken into custody on Wednesday in South Carolina for making untrue statements to federal investigators. This arrest was made by the US Attorney’s Office for the District of South Carolina. She will appear in court in Charleston on Thursday.

Raymond Moody admitted guilt and received a life sentence in October 2022. He confirmed that he and Vause saw Drexel in Myrtle Beach during her spring break in 2009 and lured her to “party and smoke marijuana.” This was reported by CrimeOnline..

The trio went to a campsite, and after Vause, who was already a convicted sex offender, left to visit a relative, Moody sexually assaulted and strangled the girl, hiding her body.

Subsequently, Vause was instructed to wear a wire to speak with Moody about the incident, which led to his arrest.

During his sentencing, Moody admitted his actions and expressed remorse.

“I was a monster. I was a monster then and I was a monster when I took Brittanee Drexel’s life,” Moody said. “I don’t have the words to express how horrible I feel … I’m very sorry.”

As per the indictment against Vause, she lied about her whereabouts and activities on the night Drexel was “assaulted and killed” by Moody. This was reported by Law&Crime. She also allegedly informed agents that Drexel had her cell phone with her during the ordeal, when in fact, Vause took the girl’s cell phone and discarded it somewhere between Georgetown and Charleston.

Additionally, the indictment claims that Drexel was tricked into joining Vause and Moody on the fateful night and did not go with them willingly as Vause initially claimed.
