A 25-year-old man from California has been accused of murdering his mother, who was a beloved elementary school teacher in Burbank.
Burbank Police stated they received a report of an unresponsive individual at a residence on N. Avon Street around 10 p.m. on Tuesday. Upon arrival, emergency responders attempted to revive the woman but she was declared deceased at the scene.
The victim was identified as 57-year-old Karyn Lombardo, who resided at the residence with her spouse and adult son.
Investigators gathered evidence indicating that the son, Kyle Lombardo, was responsible for her death during a confrontation at their home. He has been taken into custody, charged with murder, and is being held on a $2 million bond.
As per KTLA, Karyn Burbank was a teacher at Bret Harte Elementary School and had worked in the Burbank Unified School District since 1990, spending 31 years at Bret Harte.
“Her dedication, warmth, and passion for teaching touched many students and colleagues’ lives,” said district superintendent John Paramo in a statement. “Her profound impact and loss on this community will be deeply felt throughout the City of Burbank.”
Paramo mentioned that the school district had arranged for psychologists and social service providers to assist students and staff.
“Throughout her highly successful career, Ms. Lombardo influenced the lives of numerous students, parents, and colleagues, who will be grieving this loss in the days ahead,” he expressed.
