The Aiken County Sheriff’s Office found the remains of Jamilla “Millie” Smith in a wooded area in Aiken County. She had been reported missing in early December.

The Aiken County Sheriff’s Office did not mention exactly what led them to the location where they found Jamilla “Millie” Smith’s remains on Thursday. The Augusta Press reported that the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office did not provide specific details about what led them to the location where they found Jamilla Smith’s remains. An examination of the body has been requested.

Jamilla Smith’s former boyfriend, Daniel Gabriel Harmon, and two other men had been charged in connection with her death.

Daniel Gabriel Harmon, 34, and Jamilla Smith were both reported missing on December 3, a day after Smith made a 911 call reporting that her ex had broken into her home and was chasing her down the road. According to CrimeOnline, Harmon was arrested and charged with domestic violence and kidnapping in connection with Smith’s disappearance after an hours-long standoff on December 5. He was later charged with murder. The Augusta Press reported that Smith's ex-boyfriend, Daniel Gabriel Harmon, and two other men had already been charged in connection with her death.

According to the affidavit filed with the warrant for Harmon’s arrest, Smith sounded out of breath during the 911 call on December 2. After the dispatcher asked where she could meet a deputy, a car engine revved and Smith screamed. Then, a male voice was heard telling Smith to get into the car because he was going to take her to an emergency room.

The affidavit states that Smith continued to scream, telling the man not to touch or hurt her, and accusing him of hitting her. She said he told her to get into the car and she said she didn’t. Smith again told the man to leave her alone, saying she is hurting. She screamed “no” and accused the man of running over her.

According to the affidavit, police started looking for a black Dodge Charger that Harmon was renting after Smith’s mother reported her missing. The vehicle was found on December 5 in front of a home on Carpentersville Road with a cover over it. Harmon was inside the home, starting the stand-off.

Officers obtained a search warrant for the vehicle the following day and found suspected blood in the trunk. The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division conducted DNA tests on the suspected blood and sent the results to Aiken County investigators, but the results were redacted in the affidavit.

In April, Bryan Alexander Hampton Jr, 35, surrendered after being charged with accessory after the fact to murder, as reported by the Augusta Press. Clyde Hendley II, 46, was arrested last week on the same accessory charge.
