A gunman shot at an Amazon warehouse in Ohio Sunday afternoon and later injured a police officer before dying from a gunshot wound.
The Madison County Sheriff’s Office said its 911 center started getting calls about the shooting at the West Jefferson facility around 4:45 p.m. When they arrived, there were no reported injuries, and the suspect had left.
WSYX reported that the suspect, an Amazon employee, was found about an hour and a half later in southwest Columbus. According to a Columbus police dispatcher, the gunman shot at least once, hitting a Columbus Police officer. By 6:30 p.m., the dispatcher said the gunman was in critical condition at Doctors West Hospital. Ten minutes later, the dispatcher said the gunman was dead but did not specify if he was shot by an officer.
The injured officer was in stable condition at Grant Medical Center.
West Jefferson Police Chief Brandon Smith told WSYX that the gunman “did not go beyond the front area of the building” and that “there were bullet holes on the front entry and the glass.”
