A man from South Carolina is in police custody after shooting his wife and then leading law enforcement on a fast pursuit through Kershaw County.
LaQuincy Pollard, 51, reached speeds exceeding 120 mph as he evaded police on Highway 1, but eventually pulled over at a gas station and gave himself up, WLTX reported.
Officers were summoned to the location in Camden just before midnight on Thursday and discovered a woman severely wounded by gunfire. She was transported to a nearby hospital but was declared dead shortly before 1 a.m. Friday.
The victim was known as 34-year-old Daysha Nicole Johnson, a mother of two, WIS said.
“Two young children had their lives altered forever tonight due to a terrible choice made by someone they relied on as a guardian, their father,” remarked Kershaw County Sheriff Lee Boan. “These precious, innocent children lost both of their parents tonight for no justifiable reason. Please keep this family in your thoughts and prayers.”
Pollard was accused of murder, illegal possession of a weapon during a violent act, failure to yield to police lights, and other offenses.
