Philadelphia police shared a video of three suspects who shot at a group of teenagers at a bus stop on Wednesday afternoon.
According to CrimeOnline, eight students at Northeast High School in Philadelphia were injured, with one in critical condition, in the shooting in the Burholme neighborhood.
Police found a dark blue Hyundai that matched the description of one of the suspects parked overnight in the Olney neighborhood and took it to an impound lot. WPVI reported that the vehicle was believed to have been stolen from the same general area.Investigators suspect that the vehicle was taken from the nearby area.
Over 30 shots were fired around 3 p.m. as the bus arrived at the stop and the group gathered to board it, police said.
Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel stated, “Three individuals exited the vehicle while the bus was arriving and the kids were gathering to board, and then fired multiple times.”
The three individuals quickly returned to the vehicle, which then fled the scene, driven by a fourth person.
A 16-year-old boy was critically wounded after being shot nine times.
Holly Castor, who works nearby, rushed to help and recounted, “His friend was there holding him, crying, and urging him to stay awake and not go to sleep, to stay with him.”
The other victims, including two 15-year-olds, four 16-year-olds, and a 17-year-old, were reported as being in stable condition, according to the police.
The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transit Authority reported that two buses near the scene were hit by gunfire, but no passengers or employees were injured.
The police have increased patrols in the area following this shooting and another one the previous week that resulted in the death of a student at another high school, as well as injuries to two other students and two bus passengers. They are investigating whether the two shootings might be connected.
